New York Sports Teams Letterboxes
The first 7 boxes do not have a logbook. Please log your personal stamp into the NY Yankees box.
Take the Easy Loop trail down past the cemetery to the Wood Thrush Trail. Turn left onto the trail. Go through stone wall, cross over the wooden bridge. A tree with a yellow marker will be on your right. A downed tree is in front of a stone wall on left. On the other side of the tree hides the NY Islanders box under a bunch of rocks. Continue on the trail, as you cross over a stone wall, on your right will be a tree with a hole at the base. Under the rocks is the NY Rangers box. A large uprooted tree will be lying on the ground up ahead. The trail leads uphill. You will cross over a rock wall. Straight ahead is a white looking rock. Behind this stone which appears to be a bear hugging something is the letterbox. Just below the pointy backside is the NY Knicks letterbox. Travel on trail, you will see large boulders on the left. The smaller of the two has a sliver breaking away from rock. The NY Liberty letterbox sits on top of the little ledge with bark, leaves and branches covering it. Pass through the large rock slide. Be mindful of the streams that are running through here. Just past where the giant rock looms overhead, is a smaller rock. It appears that it has broken away and the tree stopped it from rolling. The NY Giants letterbox sits in a crevice, under a rock, branches & leaves. Pass the pond on the left. As you pass through the stone wall, the NY Jets box hides on the right side. It is hidden a 3 feet down the wall at the base. A stone (with lichen) stands up, covering the hole that hides it. Trail meanders around until you come to the top of small hill. The bench sits at the top with a view of mossy and grassy hill. The sign states this is the highest point in the Sanctuary. (730 ft.) The NY Yankees letterbox sits on the ledge of the 2 leader (armed) tree directly in front of the bench. Continue on trial. You will pass through a stone wall. On the right side is the I love the Mets letterbox. It sits three feet in, at the base of the wall covered by a group of stones. Follow trail to the intersection of Chiccadee Trail. You can pick up a couple of the boxes from the clues from the “Hiking the Sanctuary.” Bushel of apples box, sea otter tracks, Outhouse box & The Westmoreland cemetery box would be easily found as you follow the trail back to the museum. Remember to always bring a trail map with you. Please rehide well. This park has many boxes and if they aren't maintained properly and exposed the staff will ask us to remove them. Make sure you can't see them from any angle. Thanks.
