Famous Ohioans Series 2
Distance 7,719 feet (3046 steps X 2.6 feet per step).
Elevation Gain of approx 150 feet from the get go. (please give feedback if you think it is more or less). Note: I am an out of shape senior and I made it easily with a couple of rest stops.

Location: Glendale Trail, just above 777 Glendale Road, Marietta Ohio. Park down at 765 Glendale Road, headed downhill from the no parking sign.

This series is dedicated to those famous folks born in Ohio or who became famous while living here. The names will not be provided in the clues but a brief description and their initials will be provided. You may see if you can figure out who they are before looking at the log book cover. Also be aware that some of the containers are not water tight and therefore your courtesy of sealing the inner baggies diligently and completely will be greatly appreciated by myself and finders who will be following you. And if you are letting your children find, open and close the boxes, please verify that everything is sealed up and the container is replaced as and where found, for the welfare of the box and the pleasure of those who follow you. AND PLEASE USE THE FRONT AND THE BACKS OF THE PAGES TO STAMP IN, TO LENGTHEN THE LIVES OF THE LOG BOOKS.

Please bring with you a compass, signature stamp, ink pad, writing pen or pencil and old rag to wipe off your hands or the box or to kneel upon. In the summer you will probably need insect repellent.

Who are these Famous Ohioans?
1) S.S. born December 18, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is an American film director, screenwriter and film producer. Forbes magazine places his net worth at $3.1 billion. In 2006, the magazine Premiere listed him as the most powerful and influential figure in the motion picture industry. Time listed him as one of the 100 Most Important People of the Century. At the end of the twentieth century, Life named him the most influential person of his generation.
2) P.D. Born July 17, 1917 in Lima, Ohio, she is a Golden Globe-nominated comedienne, considered to be one of the pioneers of female stand-up comedy. She created a stage character persona that was a wild-haired, eccentrically-dressed housewife who made jokes about a fictional husband named "Fang" while smoking from a long cigarette holder.
3) J.N. born January 21, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, also known as "The Golden Bear", is one of the most successful professional golfers of all time. J.N. currently holds the record for the most victories in major championships.
4) P.N. (January 26, 1925 – September 26, 2008) Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio (Cleveland suburb), he was an actor, film director, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and auto racing enthusiast. He won numerous awards, including an Academy Award for his performance in the 1986 film The Color of Money and eight other nominations three Golden Globe Awards, a BAFT Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, an Emmy award, and many honorary awards. He also won several national championships as a driver in Sports Car Club of America road racing, and his race teams won several championships in open wheel IndyCar racing.

Directions to Trail head:
From downtown Marietta head north east on Putnam Street, passing Marietta college on your right and then reaching the stop light at 7th Street. Make a slight left jog, then right jog onto Glendale Street passing the McDonalds on the left and proceeding up Glendale looking at the house signs, on the left, for 765 followed by the garage at 777. You will be parking just uphill from the 765 address between it and the no parking sign and walking up to just past the 777 Garage, to where the trail head is. (about 27 steps past the 777 mailbox to just before another no parking sign)

Box 1) S.S. Take the trail into the woods and head up 52 steps to a deadfall base, then on up....passing a new deadfall top end at your left elbow, on up passing cut log stools and a huge new pine deadfall root section. The cut through log appears to be done with an axe or a mighty hungry beaver. Proceed on to an ~ (approx.) 110º sharp left turn and stop before making it. Look at the backside of the turn for an old deadfall behind the rock edge of the trail. Check up and down the trail before Looking behind and under the mid point of this deadfall for the S.S. box under debris and a flat rock .

Box 2) P.D. Continue on the trail into the meadow, then a gradual turn to the right 180º heading back to the woods (looking up at the storage tank) and then gradually back to the left 180 around the storage tank (looking down at a gravel road on the right), until coming to an intersection of the gravel road and your trail. Here you will leave the trail and go up the gravel road to the iron post in the ground on the right of the road, just before the fence. Turn right and from the iron post count steps and follow the fence around until finding and following the Lookout trail and at 130 steps you will stop, turn to the right to 240º and admire the view. Now, turn back as you were going on the trail, proceed slowly ahead, looking right, along the drop off edge, for a medium tree with multiple grape vines growing up. Go to this tree, unobserved, and look under the vines at the base of the tree, under dried grass, for P.D.. When done, proceed ahead and on around the storage tank back to the gravel road.

Box 3) J.N. At the gravel road head down to the Glendale Trail that you left and turn left onto it. In 28 steps you will turn right at the intersection and follow the Glendale trail down till reaching a Telephone/Power pole on the left. From here go 56 steps to a yellow blazed tree on the right of the trail. From this blazed tree, unobserved, head up at 170º to a dead, upright, 3 trunked tree, where you will find that J.N. has gotten into tree trouble again and has to take an unplayable lie, under debris in the middle of the back upright. One stroke penalty!

Box 4) P.N. From the yellow blazed tree proceed ahead, to the intersection with the blue blazed North Hills trail. From the Glendale Trail sign proceed ahead and up, veering to the right, 153 steps to the uprooted base on the right. Go another 11 steps and look up at the deadfall about 5 steps uphill. Unobserved, look behind the end of the fall for P.N. in a black , non waterproof, pouch. (please reseal the interior baggies completely to prevent moisture from reaching the log book)

This completes the Famous Ohioans Series 2 and you will head back as you came, omitting the lookout trail around the storage container unless you just want the exercise and another look at the river and town. Upon returning home and getting comfortable, I would appreciate a short note about your adventure on the Glendale trail and the condition of the boxes....if you don't mind. Cordially, Safari Man
