Level of Difficulty: Easy
Time: .8 mile round-trip

Cropped Hair is planted at the Christman Sanctuary in Duanesburg, NY.

Frida Kahlo is my absolute favorite painter and this letterbox is in honor on my favorite painting entitled Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair. She painted using vibrant colors in a style that was influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico and European influences including Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits that symbolically express her own pain and sexuality. Kahlo was married Diego Rivera (who you may also see on the hike if you have a keen eye) in 1929. Kahlo painted Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair shortly after she divorced Rivera and before she re-married him in 1940.

Directions:
Take I-88 West to Exit 24 Duansburg. Take a right off the ramp and then a left at the stop sign onto Route 7. Go about 2 miles and turn left onto Weaver Road. Then turn left onto Schoharie Turnpike. Go about ¾ mile to parking lot on right. If you reach the railroad tracks, you went too far.

Clue:

Check out the map and begin down the trail. Pass a trail on the left and go over a bridge. Go over a long boardwalk. Take your 1st trail (unmarked) on the left. At the top of the hill, go left 13 paces into the woods to a fallen log on the backside of a big pine tree. Look between the log and the tree, under a rock.

To get back to your car:
You can either turn around and go back OR (which I recommend) is to finish the blue trail since you are already half way. Go back out to the trail and go down the hill. At the intersection, you will go left to continue on the blue trail and take it all the way back to your car. BUT before heading back, if you go straight on the (and go on the trail through a carved our rock) for a VERY short distance, you will see 2 WATERFALLS!!!!
