Handcarved stamp, handmade journal. FF Certificate.

Rocky the Goat has taken up residence along Kane Creek Blvd in Moab, Utah, near some petroglyphs that depict his relatives. To find his location, from downtown Moab go South to the intersection of Main St. and Kane Creek Blvd (McDonalds and Burger King at the corners) and turn right. At the intersection of Kane Creek and 500 West , stay to the left (still on Kane Creek). Check your odometer at this intersection. The road meanders along above the river awhile. At 2.2 miles you’ll pass the Moonflower Canyon petroglyph site (the first of several rock art sites along this road). Continue for another 1.2 miles and watch carefully on the left for a small pull-off near a large rock surface covered with desert varnish facing the river from the cliff side of the road. Park in the pull-off and check out the rock art. There are bighorn sheep, snakes, human forms, and a trail that might indicate a route from the river up Kane Springs Canyon. (If you get to the cattle guard where the paved road becomes a graded gravel road, you’ve gone too far. This site is easier to spot from the road if you are coming back the other direction, so if you miss it, continue on to Birthing Rock site, a total of 5.3 miles from the intersection of Kane Creek and 500 West, then look for it on your return trip).

To find Rocky, stand near the edge of the road, facing the petroglyphs and admiring the goats, Rocky’s relatives. Turn to your right (S) and walk about 15 steps, past a little rocky wash, and turn facing up the wash (E, 90 degrees). About 15 steps ahead up beside the wash is a large, flat rock. Go to that flat rock, step up on top of the flat rock, and walk toward the back end. Just to the right of the rock’s edge is a small overhang, under which you will see a few stones (mostly river stones – now how did they get up there!) hiding Rocky the Goat and holding him carefully in place if it rains.

I left a few rocks (one flat rock and two gray stones) at about the place on the rock where you should look to your right at the ledge overhang to find Rocky, but they’ll probably not be there long, so don’t count on my little marker. Just look for the small pile of stones under the small ledge next to the large flat rock for the location of the letterbox. And please let me know the status of Rocky the Goat.
Thanks!
