Route 117 in the primary road through Sugar Hill, home of Polly's Pancake Parlor. Just uphill from Polly's (on the same side of the road) is the Herbert G. Whipple Farm Conservation Area.

Enter through the rock wall and walk north (along the mowed path in summer), keeping the other rock wall to your right. Bear left uphill toward the island of trees at the height of land. Stay right of the island to respect the private property to the left. Circle the island counter-clockwise. Look to the right for the bench under a red oak.

From the bench you'll enjoy a view of the Lafayette Range to the southeast. Behind the bench there's there's a large spruce. Look under the exposed roots on the back side of the tree.
