The MACOMB COMMUNITY COLLEGE NATURE STUDY AREA is located south of the center campus library and just north of the University Center. The trail begins at the western end of the parking lot. During the spring, the nature area can become pretty muddy and swampy in parts - dress accordingly.

*******I have moved!! After 5 years in the same log I have decided that it was time for some new surroundings!! I now live on the OTHER SIDE of Fox Run (still no foxes in sight) off of the Oak Trail. Hippity hop over the small bridge (no ducks, either)and look on the left for a log leading into the forest just past the stripped white ash. Hop along the log to my new burrow (which is in the crook of the "Y")... Hello!! After visiting, please be sure to tuck me back in and make me cozy with all those leaves!! Thank you!!*******

*****Below is the story of how I found my FIRST home, for those who may be interested*****

Here it is, my first day out on my own! Looking for a place to call home (it gets a little cramped living with nine siblings). This sprinkling of rain won't spoil my hunt (but I'd better hurry up, in case it gets worse). Check out this pleasant-looking nature area (betcha I'll have lots of friendly neighbors and swell things to eat).

Let's start with this path... umm... Fox Run? Certainly don't want to run into any of those guys (maybe it's just a name?).

What's this? Poison ivy? Have to watch out- it'll make my nose and paws itch if I'm not careful...

Hmmm.. Coming attractions? 2002? Last time I checked the garden sundial, it was 2003!

Maybe I can find a nice cozy tree-cavity like those over there (mine would have to be low to the ground). Hello future neighbors! (Hope they're friendly...)

Hippity hop!

Wonder if this stream runs here all year long? I'm sure the rain is helping it grow right now...

Well, no foxes yet (thank goodness!!), so I'll press my luck (and my rabbit's feet) further down Fox Run instead of taking this trail to the left... not many signs to guide me...

That rotted log by the sugar maple looks too damp for a home...

Another choice, this time to the right... hmm... let's see what's over the next bridge instead...

No stream under this one. The bridge is kinda wet and slippery, though. Like a stream on top...

Tree rings. You can tell how old those trees are... um... were...

I seem to be nearing the end of Fox Run. Let's duck down this trail to the left. Don't know what it's called-there's just a post...

Many fallen trees in this place... If it begins to rain harder, I may have to hide under one...

There must be someplace here suitable for a rabbit to call home. The trail gets narrower here (and rather curvy). That's a good sign!

Hoppity hip!

How 'bout that large oak on the left? No... seems that it's someone else's home already...

Horribly slippery bridge (I almost fell through!). Be careful!

Those shagbarks sure look interesting! This seems to be a nice neighborhood-far from the main road. If I can find a place around here...

Wow! There it is-that American Beech just past the shagbarks! I'm sure I can find a room in that apartment complex! I'll inquire... Great! An available ground-floor room around the back. I can wedge myself inside this nice dry log-my new burrow!

For all my friends and relations, here is my new address: American Beech, around the back, ground log, #1 eastern hole. Just knock on my wood and leaf door (and please close it securely on the way out).

Thanks for visiting!! Please remember: "Take only photographs-Leave only footprints".

This letterbox is dedicated to my wife, Gray Rabbit, who enjoys her warm, summer rains and hikes in the woods. Thank you for taking the giant leap that got us started on this new, wonderful hobby! Oh, by the way-as far as I can tell, this is the first letterbox in Macomb County!!
