Update: Century Tower is still missing. I will replace as soon as I can find a great place to hide it. 8/4/04 Gator trails & Go Gators are safe & sound.

Description: My Old Stomping Ground Series is located on the University Of Florida campus. 2003 marks UF's 150th birthday. Take your time & stay awhile it is a beautiful campus.

Directions: From I-75 take the Newberry/University exit and travel east. Follow this road straight until you reach the university. Please be careful to check on parking regulations either on campus or at www.ufl.edu. You can also find a map of the campus here.

Clues:

"Century Tower"

Century tower is a carillon (bell tower) that plays music a various times. It is one of the main symbols for the University of Florida. To find the letterbox you will have to find your way to Century Tower. Once you are between Century Tower & the Plaza of the Americas look for the "Official Christmas Tree." Here you will find a plaque dedicated to it. Stand on the sidewalk facing this plaque turn right and take 11 steps, just past a garbage can. The "Century Tower" Letterbox is located to your left behind a brick wall. It is covered with twigs & leaves. For heavens sake you are in the middle of the largest university in Florida-in the main square! Be discreet

Note: Century Tower is reported MIA 2/04

"Go Gators!"

Next on your tour of the campus find the Baughman Center. Park in the lot & walk to the street. Here you will find the sign for The Baughman Center. Facing the sign with your back to the street turn right & walk along the street past "The Old Grandfather" to "The giver of light." With your back to "The giver of light" sight 90 degrees and look in the crevice of rocks to find the "Go Gators" letterbox. Again you are on the fringe of a major road through the UF campus. Be discreet! If you feel truly inspired after finding this letterbox, you may proceed to the Lake Alice parking lot (take a right out of the Baughman Center to the next parking lot) to view the gators. Yell at the top of your lungs out over the lake "GO GATORS!"

"Gator Trails"

The final letterbox is located in the University of Florida Gardens. It used to be called the Botanical Gardens & is also near Lake Alice. From the Baughman Center take a right out of the parking lot & travel past the Lake Alice to the next lot. Be careful not to miss this- it is unmarked. Travel through a small gazebo and continue on the path. Once you have crossed several boardwalks you will come to a bench on the right. Have a seat & sight 320 degrees where two rivals stand. The letterbox is hidden between their feet and is covered with twigs & leaves. I cannot stress enough to keep an eye out for snakes & gators.

Happy Hunting!
