Adult

I. Start at the basketball court near the back side of the church, face south and walk towards the one-car garage until the Cornerstone Church of Rockingham is directly on your left.
II. Now walk to the sign which should be directly to your left
III. Look down the hill and you should see an old red building next to an old red house; walk to that building (please don’t enter the house or building, it”s called breaking and entering and it’s a crime)
IV. The old red building where you should be is a pre-Civil War spring house used for collecting water running off the hill (hence the name West Springbrook Road).
V. The bridge is around the blind turn, so walk to the evergreen between you and the bridge.
VI. From here you should see the bridge, so walk down to it.
VII. The bridge is a Thatcher Truss bridge; it is the only Thatcher Truss bridge in Virginia and one of only two still standing.
VIII. Now walk to the opposite side of the bridge closest to the stoplight; the bridge is 136 ft. long and 11 ft. wide
IX. When you have crossed the bridge look at the main beam closest to the feed mill and look for a plaque stating that the bridge is a Virginia landmark; what it doesn’t say is that it is nominated to become a national landmark.
X. If you look at the base of the beam wedged between concrete and the iron of the beam should be your letterbox

Children’s Clues

1) Start at the basketball court.
2) Skip around the church on the paved sidewalk to the glass doors closest to the road.
* For fun count the blocks as you go. How many are there?
3) Turn and face the road, and jump to the Cornerstone Church of Rockingham sign.
* For fun count the letters on the sign.
4) Now with a parent or guardian, look both ways and cross the street.
5) Now race down the hill to the old red building.
• Fun fact #1- This old building was a spring house before the Civil War
6) Now ride your imaginary pig around to the other side of the building. Check out the cool old tree. (please do not climb the tree)
* For fun, count the number of birds up in the tree. (if it is warm out)
7) Now carefully cross Early Drive with your parent or guardian.
8) Now roll in the grass down to the 25 speed limit sign in between the two mail boxes.
9) Jog down to the bridge. Fun Fact #2- This bridge is named Linville Ceek Bridge, Fun Fact number #3- It is 136 feet long and 11 feet wide.
10) Carefully walk across the bridge; for fun look in the water and try to count the fish.
11) At the end of the bridge look on your left at the last beam and read the plaque. For fun try to figure out how many years it has been a landmark. Fun fact #4- This bridge is the 18th oldest bridge in Virginia.
12) Look down the large beam and at the bottom you will see the letterbox; get a parent or guardian to get it for you.
