The Foxburg Bike trail runs from Foxburg to Parker. The trail is 2.5miles to the end. Although you will only be doing app. 1.5 miles (one way) to find the letterbox, I suggest you continue on to the end of the trail. Going out and back, you will get a nice 5 mile exercise while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Allegheny River.
Directions to the Foxburg Bike Trail:
From I-80 West- Get off at Exit 45 (Emlenton/ St. Petersburg exit). Turn left onto Rt. 208. Immediately turn left onto Rt. 478. Go appx. 2-2 ½ miles and turn right onto Rt. 58. Go until you come to the bridge. At bridge, turn left into a parking lot (Foxburg Inn, library, pizza place, winery). Do not cross the bridge! You will have to drive past several business to get to the start of the bike trail.
From I-80 East- get off at Exit 45 ( Emlenton/ St. Petersburg exit). Take right onto Rt. 478. Travel appx. 2-2 ½ miles and turn right onto Rt. 58. Go until you come to the bridge. At bridge, turn left into a parking lot (Foxburg Inn, library, pizza place, winery). Do not cross the bridge! You will have to drive past several businesses to get to the start of the bike trail.
Park on the back side of the red caboose that sits in the parking lot; where you will see the entrance to the bike trail. Walk or ride your bike app. 1.5 miles to the large bridge. This is where the Clarion River runs into the Allegheny River. You might want to look in the water to see if you spot any turtles. We often see large turtles in the water or along the shore in this area. Go across the bridge. Shortly after that, there is a path off to your left. Go on this path into the woods. App. 100 feet down this path, it veers to the left. As the path starts towards the left, there will be a tree directly in front of you where the main tree trunk branches three ways. Step off the path and go behind the tree app. 20-25 feet to a rotten tree stump. What you seek is located by the stump under a S.P.O.R.. You will need your own ink pad for this box.
When finished, please re-hide the box the same way you found it. If you ever see that the box needs attention, please let me know. I live very close to this trail and should be able to tend to the box as needed.
