I just spent 3 days at a genealogical conference that got me all fired up for more cemetery searching in addition to all the other types of searches. I managed to not buy too many books but did buy a decal for my car that says I Brake for Cemeteries. It immediately got mixed in with all the other papers I accumulated and so I haven’t gotten it on my car yet. However, despite taking highways most of the way home, I did break for at least 3 cemeteries (and 3 turkeys but that’s another story). The first was too big and too new, the second looked really neat but had no where to safely pull off the road. The third one was pretty small so I didn’t see it coming and had to break and back up. Fortunately there wasn’t any traffic and there was room to pull off.

Directions: Heading west on Rt 9 not far from the Vermont line, I took a detour onto Sugar Maple Road. If you see the Chesterfield Gorge State Wayside, you’ve just passed it so pull in to the parking lot and take a left at the exit end. If you see it coming, turn right. Go about .4 miles and turn left on Edgar Rd. The Field Burying Ground will be down this road about .8 miles and on the left. It’s just after Margo Ave.

Clues: Enter the cemetery and walk by Sally Field who lived to be 88. (I wonder if she’s related to that other Sally Field!) Go through the hole in the wall being careful of your step. When I was there I stepped off into deep leaves and grass clippings when I expected solid ground. Go right, to the end of the wall. Turn the corner and look to the left of the top corner stone.

Please be careful of the wall and make sure you cover the box well when you’re done.
