NAUTILUS IN UTAH Letterbox

Created by: Moo Poo
Placed by: Moo Poo & The Real Truth
Difficulty: Easy
Walk Time: about 5 minutes one way
Stamp: Hand-carved

The Nautilus is the logo for the university I attended. When I went back to the college-town to visit some old friends in the fall of 2008, I carved this stamp with hopes of placing it somewhere on campus. I never had a chance to go out to the campus and before I knew it, I had carried the stamp all the way to Utah!

Wasatch Mountain State Park is Utah's most developed state park. It offers golf, camping, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. For more information on the park go to:

Huber Grove is one of the oldest remaining pioneer homesteads in Heber Valley. It boasts a 100-year-old apple orchard. Be sure to check out information concerning their annual apple harvesting; where it costs $3 per bag of apples picked!

Directions to Wasatch Mountain State Park’s Huber Grove Historic Site:
Starting from Salt Lake – Take I-80 to Highway 40 (Exit #148). Follow Highway 40 into Heber City where it turns into Main St. Take a Right on 100 S (also UT-113) and go about 3 miles. You should start seeing the brown signs for Wasatch Mtn State Park as you get into downtown Midway. Turn Right at Center St and go for about 1 mile. Then, take a left at 1050 N (W Burgi Ln). Follow the road until you can take a left into Warm Spring Dr/ Warm Springs Rd. Go past the visitor’s center and you should see brown signs for Huber Grove Parking. Follow these signs to the parking area.
Starting from Provo – Take US-189 towards Heber City. You should go about 21 miles before you get to S 3600 W/ S Charleston Rd/ UT-113. Follow this road for about 4 miles and it will take you into Midway. You should start seeing the brown signs for Wasatch Mtn State Park as you get into downtown Midway. Then, take a left at 1050 N (W Burgi Ln). Follow the road until you can take a left into Warm Spring Dr/ Warm Springs Rd. Go past the visitor’s center and you should see brown signs for Huber Grove Parking. Follow these signs to the parking area.

Clues:
1) Drive around the gravel loop for the parking area. Try and park in the small lot (holds maybe up to 3 cars) closest to a bridge. Before you get to this parking lot, you should pass a larger one that may hold 5 cars. If you have to park elsewhere, just make sure you make it back to this bridge.
2) Go to the sign with the title: “Welcome to Huber Grove a place to be still”
3) Walk over to the sign titled: “Fisherman/Farmer”
4) Cross the bridge
5) Walk towards the large pine tree and stop at the sign titled: “Pine Tree”
6) Turn Right and head towards the wooden house. Stop at the sign: “Vegetable Garden”
7) Continue towards the wooden house. You’ll pass a large old tree on the right.
8) Stop at the sign: “Children 1886”
9) Now walk on toward the stone house. Stop at the sign: “Infant”
10) Go back towards the wooden house and stop at the sign: “House and Creamery”
11) Walk across the footbridge
12) Go to the sign: “Orchards”
13) Go to the sign: “Birds”
14) Walk through the orchard to the bridge.
15) Don’t cross the bridge. Facing the bridge, look down to the left side. Look under the pile of rocks closest to the first post of the bridge. This rock pile is also directly under the 4 X 4 (or is it a 4 X 6?) that sticks out slightly on either end of the path.
