This letterbox is placed at the base of New Hampshire's first wind project, which was completed in December of 2008. Seven windmills form an impressive row along a ridgeline. Wind energy is a great strategy to combat global warming.
It has recently been determined that 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere is our safety line to be able to minimize the effects of climate change. We are currently (2009)at 387 ppm and increasing steadily at a rate of 2ppm per year. In order to slow down this rate and return to 350ppm (admittedly a monumental task for all humanity), energy use both individually and collectivly needs to be reduced and modified. To find this letterbox from Route 10 in East Lempster, turn eastward on Mountain Road and pull up next to the East Lempster Cemetery. Notice a large white pine right next to the fence and nearby an enormous juniper. On the west side of the juniper, two gravestones are hidden underneath. Behind Lynda you'll find 350 New Hampshire buried under juniper needles under a piece of white pine bark.
If you need refreshment, stop in at Sturgeon's General Store around the corner to the south on Route 10. They even sell sweatshirts featuring the East Lempster Wind Project.
