Sorry. It appears this box is gone forever. It has been replaced with bad graffiti. Please forgive us for that. It was a great spot when we planted it. And the carving was really good - even if we say so ourselves!

TARPON!
The Atlantic Tarpon, Megalops Atlanticus, inhabits coastal waters, estuaries, lagoons, and rivers. It feeds on various fish and crabs. It is capable of filling its swim bladder with air and absorbing oxygen from it. The tarpon can get up to 100 inches in length and and weigh up to 350 pounds. The Atlantic tarpon is also known as the silver king. The Tarpon is considered one of the great saltwater game fishes, not only because of the size it can reach and its accessible haunts, but because of its fighting spirit when hooked. It is very strong, making spectacular leaps into the air. The flesh is undesirable and bony. In Florida a special permit is required to kill and keep a Tarpon, so most Tarpon fishing is catch-and-release.
The bridge to No Name Key is a favorite spot for fishing for Tarpon. Sometimes you can see these fish from the bridge.

Directions: Turn at MM 31 (Big Pine Key) and follow directions to No Name Key. Just before the bridge to No Name, pull off at the Old Wooden Bridge Fishing Camp and park. Find your way under the bridge on the Big Pine Key side. You will see 4 ribs of the bridge over your head. With your back to the water, look between ribs 1 and 2 from the left. You should see a rock in the corner of the 2nd rib. Behind the rock is your Tarpon!

Please be extra careful to re-hide the Tarpon! behind the rock.

Also check out the No Name Pub. They have excellent food as well as an astounding “rich” décor. Worth at least a look.
