Missing. It'll be a few months before we get a chance to replace it.
The box. To find the letterbox, find the museum at 103 12th St. This is just a block SW and a block SE from the intersection of highways 380 and 54. The main museum, a converted locker plant, is free and worth of a visit, esp. for its barbed wire collection. It's open during the middle of the day during the latter part of the week. The museum annex is next door at 101 12th St. Proceed to the left alongside the front and then the left side of the annex. Near the north corner you'll find the box under a rock. Use the cork to stamp out the city's nickname 'ZOZO'.

The movie. "The Book of Eli" starring Denzel Washington, scheduled to be released in January 2010, was filmed in Carrizozo mainly on the 400 block of 12th St. The street was first transformed into a bombed-out, post-apocalyptic refuge. After the filming, the galleries and shops were brilliantly rejuvenated. They also justify the visit to this site.
