The Miwok Acorn Granaries Letterbox is located in Cotati, Miwok territory. In fact the funky, classy little town of Cotati is named for the legendary Chief Cotati of the Coastal Miwoks. For more history of Cotati go here:

For some information on acorn granaries which were structures to store acorns which were processed and used for food:

The Miwok Acorn Granaries letterbox is found on the walking trail next to the Laguna de Santa Rosa. Access this trail by driving south from greater downtown Cotati. Turn left onto E. Cotati Avenue and left onto McGinnis Circle. Park when you see the entrance to the preserve on your left. Pass between the informational board and the bench, cross over the bridge and turn right. After awhile cross Benson Avenue. Keep walking. Observe the diamond and pass by three bridges, but keep right on walking. You’re on a mission. After awhile you’ll note two metal poles through which you will pass between and now you will be skirting Ladybug Park. Walk to your right straddling the lawn on your left and on your right a sort of marshy spur of the lagoon with a number of willow trees. By this means you will once again come to the walking path. Keep moving. After awhile you will come to a bit of short chain link fence on your left. It appears to have no function. On your right a pole also with no current or apparent reason to be there. At this point walk about 38 steps until you find a tall eucalyptus tree on your left. Walk 6 to 7 steps until you reach the tree. Behind the tree and to the right under a large rock resting next to a wooden fence you will find the Miwok Acorn Granaries Letterbox.
Please be sneaky and close everything up tightly when you’ve logged in. Thanks for coming!
