Summer of 2009. It seems as though the facility has been closed all season due to reconstruction. We do not know if the work has disturbed the box location or not, so if you are in the neighborhood please check it out and let us know the status of this box.

Before giving the clues to this letterbox we must tell you that the stamp was originally carved for the Tule Elk Preserve just slightly north/west out of Bakersfield, California. The Tule Elk Preserve can be reached off of I - 5 north of the grapevine. This preserve has replenished Tule Elk along highway 395 from Lone Pine to Bishop and in many other places in the central valley in California. Unfortunately it is very hot and frankly very ugly at the preserve but you are guaranteed to see many Tule Elk. One other thing you should be warned about to eliminate any whining, it is a large stamp about 3" X 3".

Clues:
From Jackson heading north toward the airport turn right toward the Cutthroat trout hatchery 4 miles out of town and just before you enter the Grand Teton National Park. Park in the upper parking area marked for visitors. Find the most western corner of this lot which is on the opposite end where most folks park. The Jackson's Elk can be found up a slight incline 15 paces at 320 degrees near an orange lichen colored rock from this corner. No not that rock! The other smaller one with the small cairn of rocks. Now go enjoy the view, and a hatchery tour. This area has a pond attached and is a great location for any physically challenged person that likes to fish. You do need a Wyoming license.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.

Please contact placer directly or through the LBNA chat list regarding status rather than unofficial data bases.
