Stamp hand-carved
My birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day and I spent a wonderful birthday this year letterboxing in the Kernville area. I was also interested in the name Rincon because I live at the base of the Rincon Mountains in southern Arizona. So, these gave me the impetus to place this letterbox.
From Kernville, drive north on Sierra Way. After crossing into Tulare County, the road becomes Mountain Hwy. 99. After Mile Marker 14 and just before 13, look for a small sign “Rincon Trail. 33E23” and a dirt 4-wheel road on the right going off at an angle. This is across from Ant Canyon raft put in/out. You can park along the level area of Rincon Trail or across the highway at Ant Canyon.
Walk west up the Rincon Trail dirt road. After a few turns winding up the slope, the road will make a right turn through a 7 to 8 feet high cut through a granite outcrop. Stand with your back against the left face of the road cut. Look at about 32 degrees (from mag. north) up slope to see a narrow upright rounded-top boulder (it has a “dog face” on it!). Make your way up to this boulder. From the north side of the boulder, go at about 350 degrees for about 4 steps to the box which is under the southeast side of a large bush and under some rocks covered with twigs and plant debris.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rocks and cover them with some twigs and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
I will not be able to check on this box very often, so please let me know if you find it or if it needs attention or is missing: http://home.att.net/~azroadie/letterboxing.html
Please record your find at www.letterboxing.org/ or at www.atlasquest.com/ .
