This box is placed in the Argos Library, now in its new location at 142 North Michigan Street. It is the northern most building on the west side of Michigan Street in down town Argos.

Dr Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Fifteen years of his early career was spent creating advertising campaigns for Standard Oil. As World War II approached his focus shifted to weekly political cartoons for PM magazine. He worked as a cartoonist for The Saturday Evening Post and also contributed to Life, Vanity Fair, and Judge. His big break into children's literature came when he was illustrated a collection of children's sayings called Boners. The book was not a commercial success, however the illustrations received great reviews.

At the time of his death in 1991, Dr. Seuss had written and illustrated 44 children's books. His books had been translated into more than 15 languages. Over 200 million copies had found their way into homes and hearts around the world.

The Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden with bronze sculptures of Dr. Seuss and his most beloved characters is located in his home town.

Dr. Seuss was challenged to write a story “first graders wouldn’t be able to put down.” That’s just what he did in 1957 using a vocabulary of only 236 words he wrote The Cat in the Hat and learning to read had never been so much fun.

This box honors Dr. Seuss, my 5 year old grandson and the Cat in the Hat all celebrating birthdays this month.
There are finders gifts for the first 6 to stamp in.

CLUES:
Your steps go up and again go up,
Twenty steps in all go up.
Unless you go up two at a time.
Then you'll be there just over nine.

Past a bench and through glass doors.
Into a room where there's stories galore.

Then with slow steps or fast steps.
The right steps are west steps.
Step, step and step and at the end stop.
When you take a drink your at the right spot.

Then with slow steps or fast steps.
The right steps are east steps.
Step, step and step and at the end stop.
Then go south to the wall, you can step or hop.

Then with slow steps or fast steps.
The right steps are west steps.
West as the Great Birthday Bird flies
to Yertle the Turtle, Thidwick and Sam,
Thing 1, Thing 2, green eggs and ham.

Stop where resides, Horton, Max, Mr. Knox,
Cat in the Hat and Sue who sews socks.
Just a step west as you've stepped before
and you get down low, close to the floor.

A pouch contains the desired things
and under the white metal it clings.
It's the place Cat in the Hat now resides.
All comfy and cozy is the pouch he's inside.

*** Please note: When replacing this pouch press all parts of the magnet firmly against the underside of the shelf. If this is not done it will release. This and other boxes in this library are place with the librarians' full knowledge and overwhelming approval. Thanks and happy boxing.
