The Haunted Woods: THE SWAMP MONSTER
2nd box in a series
Beware the swamp monster! He’s a slithery slimy creature with only two front legs. Don’t be fooled. He is very fast, and usually waits just beneath the muck for an unsuspecting creature to come along. He is most dangerous on a rainy day, when he can widen his search for prey by slithering through wet leaves and on wet moss. Watch for movement alongside and under the trail!
There is no ink pad in this box. Dark green works well.
Start from “The Vampire Box” in Clough Preserve, Brewster, NY.
Continue this path, the woods are deep.
By the swamp, this box the monster keeps.
Don’t heed the warning, “Stay out of the swamp”
Because the monster holds what you want.
Soon you will pass through a stone wall.
Walk till you start up hill, and hear the call.
Come to a FALLEN tree, split, to go through.
Just before the trail bends right in front of you.
Follow the FALLEN part on the right.
You are about to seal your plight.
At the end of this tree is a large rotten stump.
What you seek is in its’ hump.
Covered with a rock and pieces of bark,
Look to the top where IT is parked.
Hide it well from front and back,
And so no one can find your tracks.
Please, please zip all bags and hide all of the boxes in this series from all angles, so they cannot be found by the high school kids that also haunt these woods. If you’ve left tracks, please cover them as well.
Depending on what time of year you go, watch for insects, poison ivy, and icy trails.
