The Red Rose

Due to a controlled burn expected in the area box was pulled 1-27-18. Will replant after the burn.

The Red Rose City of Lancaster, in the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch country, enjoys a long and rich history. In 1777, the city was briefly the capital of the American colonies and also served as Pennsylvania's capital from 1799 to 1812. Today, Lancaster is known as the home of the Amish, a religious group that eschews the hustle and bustle of modernity in favor of seclusion and simple living. Hearty Amish cooking and traditional crafts are popular with tourists, and the surrounding countryside is an antique-lover's paradise.

Today’s tour starts at the parking lot on Mountain Spring Road at Center Stream Undomesticated Management. Follow the wide trail to E lder’s R un T rail. Cross the bridge and continue uphill. Not too far up, up, up, the trail will bend to the right. Look for the foursome of graffiti trees and “Doug 77” on the left of the trail. To your right up on a bank will be a huge beech where “IC loves MC 1980”.

Go visit MC. From TS 95 go north to a scarred tree with rough bark. From the lower scar, 80* to one that was three.

Suspicious Hole In Tree.

Notes:
1. Valentine’s Day was an appropriate day to plant this box
2. I wanted a hike and bolgna sandwich
3. I got: one single red rose, 2 beautiful cards, a hike, a lebanon bogna sandwich. AND he gave me the SPOR off his back to help plant the box. I am a lucky girl.
4. BYOI – Red and green suggested.
5. If you reach the cool ruins, too far.
6. Do your homework. Much fun to be found.
7. Do visit beautiful Lancaster County
8. You know the rest.
