Retired as of 6/16/14, victim of ever expanding construction.

Starting in 1914 with 18 acres, Rose Hills Memorial Park has grown to become the largest cemetery in The United States. Just south of the 60 freeway, exit the 605 freeway at Rose Hills Rd, turn left on Workman Mill Rd and right into Gate 1.

Stay on the main road and drive all the way up and back. Follow the signs to Grace Terrace, to borrow a line from C.S. Lewis, "further up and further in." When the Buddhist Columbarium is on your right, turn left, then right through the gates and uphill, parking at the end of the cul-de-sac. Come in the morning or early afternoon, because those gates sometimes close in the evening, or just hike your way up the hill. The box is now gone, but if you still wish to climb up the dirt road a short way, you will be rewarded with an amazing view across Los Angeles below.
