You know how you stare at those leftover chunks of pink stuff trying to figure out how to use 'em up. A hitchiker, maybe? Well, this one was in the perfect shape of a flag.. making me think of those flags at the holes of golf courses.

Not being much of a golfer myself, I recently wondered aloud why one sometimes sees reference to a 19th hole when regulation courses have only 18 holes. After my friends stopped laughing at me, they informed me the 19th hole is a different sort of a hole- what you might call a 'watering hole' (i.e.- a round one buys after a round of hitting little round things!)

There are several open-to-the-public golf courses in SF. This one is named for an old President who has something in common with our new President. You should be able to get it easily enough if you are a good Thinker. And keep in mind, on a golf course you're bound by Honor to replace your divots and play it as it lies.

Drive up past the lower holes all the way past a Legion of columns on your left, bearing to the right and starting descent. Check out the view!! There are a string of benches along the view. Park anywhere near there. One bench framed by a pair of trees says "From here, a glimpse into heaven". A glimpse obscured by two big trees, alas. Keep going downhill past a man who was loved by family and friends.

Oh, look a nice paved path for golf carts!

On that path, at the first severe switchback to the right, take a left onto the greens. Nice benches! Doc Paver, when he was chief medical director of the Golf Department, used to love to sit here looking at the incredible view. Right behind him would be a stump with nearby agapanthus (strappy foliage). Behind the stump is the Golf Department. Please cover very well with dried agapanthus seedheads or other debris.

Warning: FORE! Flying golfballs, golf carts
