*** Old West Fort Series ***
The "Fort Terrett" Minibox is located in the middle of nowhere, since nothing remains of the fort, and the historical marker seems to be gone also. The actual fort was probably south of this location, alond the North Llano River. Fort Terrett was established February 5, 1852 on the east bank of the North Fork of the Llano River, about 2 hundred yards from its source. It was part of a line of forts to protect the Texas frontier. Lt. Colonel Henry Bainbridge (1st US Infantry) established the fort, and it was named for First Lt. John C. Terrett (1st US Infantry) who was killed on September 21, 1846 in the Battle of Monterrey. The post was abandoned on February 16, 1854.
Directions:
From I-10, between Senora and Junction, exit #420 and go north north on CR 306 for 4.3 miles to intersection with road to the "4D Ranch". Park before intersection on the right.
To the Minibox:
Go right to the tree clump. The box is between the double oak tree, with rock on top.
