History:
Elizabeth "Molly" Stark was born in Haverhill, New Hampshire in 1737. Her Father was the Captain of the New Hampshire Militia. He built a fort on his property in Dunbarton, New Hampshire as a defense against Indian attacks. "Betsy" helped guard the fort and met John Stark there while he was serving in Rogers Rangers. In 1758 Molly married General John Stark, the writer of New Hampshire's, "Live free or die" motto. They had eleven kids together total. In 1775 John invited Molly to Massachusetts where he was leading forces. She joined him. Molly was a doctor and a nurse to her husband's troops when there was the smallpox epidemic. Their house was used as a hospital during this time. John Stark led his troops from present-day Charlestown, New Hampshire across Vermont to defeat the British in the Battle of Bennington in August 1777. To confuse the enemy, General Stark referred to the route they were taking as the "Molly Stark Trail" and it is still known as that on the present day Vermont Highway Map. Molly and her son, Caleb who was fifteen at the time, fought at Bunker Hill. Molly had spirit, adventure and courage and was greatly noted for this. When Molly was not with John, she ran the farm. Molly died when in 1814. She had typhoid fever. She was 77 years old. Molly lived a great life and achieved much. Her fighting on Bunker Hill was a great achievement in her life because not many women fought back then. She left behind her husband any many of her kids besides one who died as an infant. Today, people know her as Molly instead of Elizabeth, because this is what John always called her. Molly is remembered by schools and other town buildings named after her. Molly Stark was married to a great New Hampshire general who gave us our motto.

When you arrive at Molly Stark's house in Dunbarton, New Hampshire, park in the driveway. Explore the yard a bit and enjoy the scenery. Stop at the Molly Stark sign in front of the house and take a quick read up on the history. After brushing up on the history of Molly, start walking back towards the driveway. Walk to the garden at the end of the driveway and enjoy the flowers and plants. Now turn around and take seven paces back. The house should now be on your left, with brush on you right. Its your choice to make the right decision now. You can either head right into the brush and try your luck looking for it in there, or try your luck near the house looking in the tree near the door and the plants over there. The box will be in one of these spots. Have fun, choose carefully, and Good Luck!
