CluesSouth Bay Series #3
Alive and well as of 7/26/10
NOTE: This box can be done individually as a quick drive-by, or can be combined into a nice 6 1/2 mile (round trip) hike with Reservoir Dogs and Rails-To-Trails. With plenty of parking along the Greenbelt, you can begin wherever you wish, doubling back in either direction. Add to that the relatively short trips on either side of Manhattan Beach Blvd to the pier and Polliwog Park, and you've got a nice day of letterboxing.
-----
Dive N' Surf is a famous local shop that has everything a watersport enthusiast needs. I wanted at least one of these boxes to represent South Bay beach culture, and their logo made for a pretty cool stamp, too. They are located at 504 N Broadway, which runs parallel one block west of PCH.
From the shop, head north on the street named for an island, go left at the first light, pass the dirt yard, turn left at the stop sign and park in a metered space. This northern border of Redondo Beach is the beginning of the Greenbelt. At the 0 mile (3 3/4 mile) marker, follow the gaze of the seagull to a pine tree with an ivy-covered trunk and look at the base on the far side.
When you're finished, make sure the logbook is in a bag, and that bag, along with the stamp and the inkpad, are all in a second bag.
If you're doing all three as one long hike, head north from here to Rails-To-Trails, then continue on to Reservoir Dogs and double-back. |
