THIS BOX REPORTED MISSING AS OF MARCH, 2009.

At the After Turkey Ditch Day event in 2008, we were surprised to have a turkey actually attend the event. He was so excited to have survived Turkey Day, and arrived with placard in wing, declaring that he had made it to Turkey Day +1. Although we were all surprised to see a turkey still sporting full feathers the day after Thanksgiving, we invited him to stay and gobble up a taco or two. When I got home from the event, I was amazed to find that turkey perched in my backseat. He settled in for a week or two, then decided to head back into the wild.

I drove him to Old Settler's Park in Round Rock. He flew past the baseball diamond, and on toward the soccer field. But that didn't seem wild enough for him, so he flew on to the pavilion. Still not satisfied, he kept flying from branch to branch. When he saw the lake area flanked by the sandlot volleyball, he said that was the place for him. We parked near the bushes at the bottom of the lot, and he hopped out with a spring in his wing, headed for the four big trees near the water. In the one farthest north, he found a great perch among the several trunks, about 5 feet off the ground. Seemed a great place to spend his time, placard firmly grasped in his wing, and happy to have made it past Turkey Day, 2008!

Find him nesting under a pile of leaves and driftwood. Be sure to put him back, safe and secure and well hiddden. Log onto atlas quest or LBNA to record your find, and email me to let me know how Mr. Turkey is enjoying his freedom.
