You start at the Saddle Club on Mercer Island. Park on the side of Island Crest Way (ICW). Take time to visit the horses when the club is open. This 20 horse barn is a co-op so there are often knowledgeable people present to share their love of horses with interested visitors. Across from the entrance to the Saddle Club (there is a gate on the ICW side) there is a trail that leads into the SE quadrant of Pioneer Park. Follow the trail into the woods (there is a trail that parallels ICW - don’t take that one). Stay on the trail until the first spur to the right. Take the spur trail and go 20 yards until you see a dieing tree with a double trunk. This looks like a V on the left side of the trail. Across from this tree is a Big Leaf Maple with 3 trunks. Look at the base of the tree under a large bark strip for the Letterbox.
