Knowles Creek is a 170-acre wetlands with an interpretive trail that is a great place to view wildlife. Bring your binoculars! There are owls, hawks, eagles, loons, waterfowl, songbirds, and in midsummer, a profusion of dragonflies as well. The 0.75 mile hiking trail is easy and accessible, there is a large viewing platform, and benches along the way.
From State Hwy 32 in Wabeno, take County Road C east for approximately 9 miles. Watch for the Knowles Creek Impoundment sign and turn right onto a gravel road which ends in a small parking lot. Follow the hiking trail past a foot bridge to the last bench before the trail turns around on itself. Have a rest here and note the small pine tree directly to your left. There are two large rocks behind it and you will find a beloved marsh musician beneath the second one.
