as of 8/8/08 this letterbox is back in place.
Directions:
Exit 24 from Rt. 93 to Ashland. Follow Rt. 3 approximatley 10 miles South through Holderness. Turn left onto College Road. Within 1/2 mile on he left there is aparking area in the wood. Don’t park here. Farther along you will see a large sign with parking spaces in front of it. Park here, it will lead to the correct trail.
The Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest is maintained by the Squam Lakes Association. For more information and a trail guide go to their website: www.squamlakes.org
Enjoy Squam Lake! This is a wonderful family walk/hike. Take a picnic, your bathing suit and a towel (bug spray is an understood). Pets are allowed but must be leashed. Hint: carry a bucket for blueberries so you can pick along the boardwalk if you happen to be there during the 1st week of August.
Clues:
Follow Ant Hill Trail over the chain.
At 1st marker post follow the arrows in Campsites/ Beaches.
At 2nd marker post follow the arrows in Campsites/ Beaches.
Continue over 2 run-off diverter logs.
At 3rd marker post follow the arrow to Swamp Walk.
Locate the engraved boulder “Arthur C. Unsworth Memorial Nature Trail.”
With compass in hand locate “Due North.”
On that line look for "hole" in the moss.
Your treasure is behind a few rocks and wood debris in this hole.
Please be sure to replace carefully and be sure it is not visible before leaving. This box has disappeared in the past and may again if not fully hidden.
Now that you have come this far, follow the wooden boardwalk across the swamp. The trail markers will lead you to the beach. A great place for a picnic and a swim. There are toilet facilities near the beach.
