“Texas Twilight” Letterbox

Difficulty: Easy
Total Distance to letterbox: About ¼ Mile (one way)
Placed by Baby Bear

Status of Letterbox: Alive and Well on 10/18/2013

Lake Houston State Park is located just north of Houston. The park offers camping, hiking, picnic area with BBQ pits, and lodges for groups. It is not actually on Lake Houston, but does extend to the San Jacinto River. Be careful, many poisonous snakes live in the park!

Directions:

The “Texas Twilight” letterbox is located in Lake Houston State Park. From Houston, take Hwy 59 northeast to the New Caney exit, and go right on Hwy 1485. Follow the brown park signs form here (about 4 miles).

To the letterbox:

Enter new entry of park. Park, then head for the bridge over the creek. Cross it. Go left on trail soon after (has 2 posts near trail head). Take this trail until you reach the first trail junction. Stay straight, counting 120 steps. In about 75 yards you will reach a sign for “Perched Lake”. The box is off the trail on your right at 250 degrees, at the base of the largest dead tree, covered with leaves and sticks (9 paces from the trail). It is on the east side of this tree, facing the trail. Suggest you poke around with a stick first. Please recover very well, as many of my boxes are not being re-hid as good as found. Thanks.
