This box is one in a series of boxes commemorating Walkabout’s travels. In this instance, we rode the New River Train from Huntington WV to Hinton, attended the Railroad Days Festival in Hinton, and returned to Huntington by rail the same day. Hinton is alongside the New River, a great waterway for kayaking and rafting.

The letterbox is located near the Hinton Train Station on 2nd Avenue.

2nd Avenue terminates at the railroad tracks. From this intersection, walk southbound train-side along the Hinton Train Station. At the south end of the building you will see a set of concrete steps that are accessible to the public and that go up to street level. Walk halfway up the stairs to the third landing; you will be standing between two yellow upright steel rails. Walk up 5 more steps; now you are on the 4th landing up from the railroad.

Alternate route, from the town of Hinton above the tracks:
At the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Summers Street, there is a Summers County Senior Activities Center. There is a concrete staircase on the east side of the senior center, down to the railroad tracks. From the top of these stairs, walk down to the 3rd landing.

Turn to face the greenery alongside you, uphill toward town. Four steps into the lawn are some clumps of bushy trees. Look inside the base of the left-most clump.

Note: this log book is small--1.5 x 1.75 inches.
