~Well, the fall seems to be a busy time for birthdays for my pups. My "middle child" turned three on a gorgeous fall day.

Snickerdoodles loves to go on long hikes, especially if there are squirrels or chipmunks involved ;-) She usually manages to find something to pick up and hold in her mouth for a good part of the hike. When you locate her box, you will find one of her favorite things to carry.

She says to bring along your favorite canine as they will love the walk also.

Please bring ink with you.

This box will take you to a probably familiar location, but on a section of trail that was brand new to us.

Make your way to Copp Park on route 184 in Groton. This is near the intersection with Gungywamp Road. Park, make use of the facilities if need be, and begin your journey on yellow.

Follow the wide path and soon you will be at Central Bark. I know my canines love this area!
Keep going with the chain link fence on your right. You will soon spot a tree on your left with a yellow arrow on it. Follow the arrow.
Continue on this path, ignoring all side trails until you come to a "T" intersection. There is actually a foundation right in front of you. Something Fishy about that...

Turn right here and very quickly you will come to a Y intersection. Bear right here and you will come to a four way intersection in a little bit.

Go straight across. You will pass through a stone wall and start heading uphill.
You will come to another "T" intersection and this time you will need to turn left on blue.

Pass an island of Mountain Laurel on your right. Then you will be walking along with lots of Mountain Laurel on either side of you.
At the "Y" intersection, bear right on yellow and you will still be walking among the laurel.
(I need to get back here when it is in bloom. I am sure it is gorgeous!)

Soon you will come to "a triple tree in rock." Bear right at this intersection, staying on yellow. You will go through some wonderful rocky areas and at the time this was placed there was a gorgeous cairn about 4 feet high off to the left of the trail.

Soon you will find yourself at a wonderful slick rock vista. After enjoying the view, continue on yellow to the right.

There will be plenty of cool rocks and lots of Mountain Laurel along the way.

Soon you will find yourself at a cool spot where yellow goes three ways:
-either to your right and downhill with the aid of ropes
-back the way you came from
or
-straight across on slick rock (This is the way that we had never been.)
We went straight and thoroughly enjoyed this section of trail.

It curved to the left and we found a huge boulder along the right side of the trail followed by another, smaller boulder. (We did investigate down the hill to the right there and it was quite interesting.)

After the smaller boulder, the trail started to climb. At the top of the hill we saw a large, freestanding rock on the left of the trail. We stopped here to catch our breath and noticed a group of four smaller trees growing together.

If you go to the backside of these trees and look in the "V" notch of the rock slab there, you will find Doodles 3rd Birthday box tucked in among the quartz and leaves.

Please re-hide this box well in the same location as it is very near the trail.

When you have finished stamping in, continue on yellow in the direction you were heading. You will eventually find yourself at a familiar "wonderful" place. From here, it is your choice which way to go back.

Doodles chose the loooong way 8-)

Have fun!

Flutterby~

P.S. There is a special gift for the first finder!
