The Lake Pepin area of Minnesota and Wisconsin is always beautiful any season, but especially gorgeous in the fall. I always feel so close to nature when I'm around this lake. Lake Pepin also has the added attraction of Harbor View Cafe in Pepin, Wisconsin which is my most favorite restaurant. The letterbox is hidden at the rest area on the northern end of town. Between the parking lot and the lake is a fence. Follow the fence line going north. When you take one step off the rest area's grassy area and into the wooded area, start counting the wooden logs holding up the fence. At the sixth log (which is separated from the fifth log by a rectangular piece of wood), count 8/9 steps along the fence line. At this point, face the woods with the lake at your back. Notice the large log lying perpendicular to the path you have been traveling. Walk along the log (left side) until you reach the spot on the log that has been sawed off. The other portion of the sawed log is lying right next to the first portion of the log. Face the sawed portion of the logs and look toward the east at a stump about 10-15 feet from the log. Go to that stump and reach in the hollow for the letterbox. Please make sure you cover the letterbox completely from both sides (the front and back). Enjoy.
