Letterbox NOT litterbox
Red Rooster Drive In

The Red Rooster is an ice cream stand fashioned after a 1950 style drive by hamburger place. They sell hamburgers and hot dogs, fried chicken, fish and chips, and of course, ice cream. The food is good and made fresh, and is not too costly; a great place to stop by for a bite to eat with the kids. They only have a couple of small tables on the inside, but ample picnic tables outside. They even have a miniature golf course.

ABOUT THE BOX: My inspiration for this box is one that you probably all have experienced. You are being introduced to someone new by your friend, and your friend says, “This is my friend, so and so. Her hobby is looking for litter boxes."

DIRECTIONS: I684 to Rte 22 North (towards Pawling). You can’t miss Red Rooster’s bright red and white roof with the giant ice cream cone on the top.

TO THE LETTERBOX: At the end of the parking lot, in back of the miniature golf course, is an old cemetery. I didn’t even notice that it was there until this past spring. It is not kept up very well, and is often full of pacasandra and poison ivy. I think the grass only gets mowed once or twice a year. It is surrounded by a stone wall. The entrance is on the south side of the cemetery. It seems to be the Sherwood family cemetery, although there are a few other names. It gets very busy here during the warmer months, so use caution when looking. Go to the entrance of the cemetery. On the left side of the entrance wall, but inside the cemetery and under the huge slab of rock that is the top of the wall, is the “Letterbox, Not Litterbox” Letterbox. It sits behind a jagged rock that hides it. Please make sure that the box is completely covered by the rock before you leave.
