DIRECTIONS: Ed Walsh Fields are located behind Thomas Hooker School, 70 Overlook Road, Meriden, CT. Park in the lot behind the school, by the baseball fields.
INFORMATION: Sorry, no 'who am I' question this week. But here is a tad of the baseball's history... The baseball was a very important part of the development of the early game of baseball. The hand-made baseball allowed their makers to become identified as making a "live," "medium" or "dead" ball and added to the strategy employed by visiting teams. The size and weight of the baseball changed radically in 1857, continued to change in the 1860's and in 1872 became the same as the ball used today.
CLUES: After parking your car, walk down the gravel road between the baseball fields. Concession stand building is on your RIGHT. As you near the end of the raod, keep to the RIGHT around the 3rd baseline of Carabetta field. Today, there are 2 sets of metal bleachers here. However, Emily noticed that they have wheels... maybe the move them seasonally??? Either way, where the bleachers belong, the mowed grassy area is slightly larger than the rest of the outskirts of the field. Behind this area, only a few feet into the woods is a pile of cinderblocks. You will need a bit of muscle to move these blocks... but under there hides box #6.
Box on...
