This is the second box in a planned series to commemorate the annual fall camping trip of three Houghton High School graduates, class of 1988, and their families.
Time: One hour round trip
Difficulty: Clues, easy. Terrain, mostly flat trail with some gradual uphill and an optional very steep downhill.
Take Wilderness Park Drive to the *Nebo Trailhead. Trailhead is one mile from the Wilderness State Park entrance and approximately 9 miles from I-75. Find the Nebo Trailhead. Technically, a Michigan State Parks sticker is required. If you want to drive to the campground entrance booth and purchase one, that is up to you. Go past the STOP and continue onto the trail. Continue past the first Hemlock Trail intersection. At the second Hemlock Trail Intersection, turn left (opposite the sign) and head to the top of Mt. Nebo. When you reach the top, look for a fallen tree. The treasure is near the base of the tree. Go back the way you came, or take the steep path down on the opposite side of the hill.
*Nebo- the mountain from the top of which Moses saw the promised land (apparently, in this case, the U.P.), although in the fall, there wasn't much of a view!
