The Picnic Box Planted by Robby and Dean

From US 50
At Ellenboro roughly mid-way between Clarksburg & Parkersburg) exit from US 50 and get on Rt. 16 NORTH - go to a T in the road which comes shortly after passing under the North Bend Rail Trail- and turn left continuing on 16 N. Pass through the village of Pike, where Rt. 16 makes a well marked right hand turn. Continue on for a wee over 14 miles from Ellenboro. At the foot of a very long and steep hill look for Cherry Stret. Turn left onto Cherry Street- there is a sign here saying Pleasants Co. Park! (If you come to a stop light you have come to far by about one block) Go ONE block on Cherry Street and at teh stop sign turn left. Again, there is a park sign here. This street, after a few short blocks, comes to the park and the road T's.

From WV Rt. 2
North of Parkersburg, south of Wheeling, is the city of St. Marys WV. At the northern end of this fine little town and on WV Rt. 2 is a stop light beside a Wendy's fast food restaurant and the High School. From the north or south the iea is simple...turn away from the Mighty Ohio River and onto the street between the School and Wendy's. This is WV Rt. 16. Go ONE block on Rt. 16 and turn right onto Cherry Street. Go ONE block on Cherry Street to a stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign (there is a sign for the park here). This street, after a few short blocks, comes to the aprk and the road T's.

AT The Park Entrance - go to your right. Turning Away from the small log cabin.
Look for signs to the Ampitheater and Picnic Shelter No. 6.
You can walk from here or continue to drive. Make a decision now to park and walk/ climb or to auto on. The roads are neat little gravel lanes twisting around and up the hills as they rise up from the Ohio River flood plane. Keep twisting about and looking for Shelter #6.
Once you've found it, there are frequent signs telling the way, go up the 12 wooden steps. You are now well above the River and in the woods. Enter the shelter. Sit down. Relax. Success is near.
Look for a small clump of three trees. One is dead, one a sassafras, and one a pine. The treasure you seek lies under the small pine. It is HIDDEN. Covered by leaf litter and then a flat piece of a cement block. Within and under is the "little critter" you are looking for and a logical one to find in the woods!

Maybe take the box to one of the picnic tables for the stamping ritual and Sit. Stamp at your leisure. Listen to the woods. If you have that picnic (or a sandwich you grabbed in town) here is a fine place to glow about your successful sleuthing and enjoy.

Because this is near an area frequently used by others please be sure the box is covered with leaves form the woods floor when leaving. Best to look at it from all angles to insure it is well hidden. And pat down those leaves you toss on top so it does not look so obvious please!
