* Needs attention - soggy logbook reported*
*We'll try to fix this in August*

Note: This is a replacement of the box placed by the Drew Clan. Many thanks from the von der Insels to the Drew Clan for showing us the way to a really lovely site!

Secondary Note : There are at least two geocaches in the area. Attention Geocachers - please leave the stamp in the box, it is not a 'prize'!

A single letterbox with views of salt marshes over an easy ½ mile walk. Just north of the Newport Bridge tollbooths, take the Jamestown exit of Rte. 138 and drive a short way to park at the Jamestown Country Club on your right. Walk back northwards along the road about 100 yards to the Conanicut Island Sanctuary sign, and turn left (west) into the woods and on the trail.

Follow the trail for about a hundred yards, over two flat, wooden bridges. At a clearing, the trail bends right (north) and passes through a stone wall to reach a "T" intersection. Turn left (west) to walk a clockwise loop. Meander through shrubby woods that are reclaiming an old farm. The first left leads to a short wooden bridge and an overlook of the salt marsh. Enjoy this close-up view of the wild water fowl. As you turn around and leave, the box is close nearby! The Island Sanctuary Letterbox is hidden behind a large old maple tree on the right (southwest) not 15 feet from the forest-end of the bridge. Find a 'fallen leaf' behind the tree. After stamping in, you can return the way you entered, or continue clockwise on the loop trail by turning left. This will take you by two other observation areas - these with platforms and benches for enjoying the marsh.

Caution! In the hot months it can be quite mosquito-ful! In the Autumn, though, it's very pleasant.
Please make sure any baggies are sealed tightly - this is a damp area in the best of times, and downright swampy some other times. Please contact us about any problems.
