This letterbox is located outside on the grounds of the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum. This box is not located in or on any of the museum displays.

It is my understanding that this box has been removed during renovations and you must ask for it inside the museum. 10/11. As of 4/5/12, I have visited the Museum twice to retrieve the box and they were closed. I tried calling and the person on the phone had no idea what this box was about. If anyone goes inside and gets this box, can you let me know. If you get the box, please feel free to take it and mail it back to me. I will reimburse you.

Please visit the museum during it's regular hours, you are in for a wonderful treat. After visiting the displays inside, venture outside and view the displays of the cast iron Try Works, the wooden whale boat, the old school bell, and don't miss the whale jaw bone over the front entrance way. Once you have visited this historical location, you will want to walk past the Tri Works and down the north side of the building. This letterbox awaits your finding under the first ramp you come to. Reach in under the second ballister on the building's side, to find it. This is a very busy area, especially in the summer time. If others are around, please skip this until it is quieter.

Another note. The grounds and building are actually part of the Masonic Temple. One of the oldest orders in the country! They hold their meetings upstairs.

This letterbox was first launched at the PADDLE IN Event on September 1, 2008, Belgrade Lakes, Maine. Following the event, this letterbox traveled to the East End of Long Island to it's new home closer to the ocean and near the Whaling Museum. Many thanks to Littlmoon for her wonderful carve!
