MISSING! If you know where this box is, please email me a new status. THANK YOU!!

Pinckney Island, SC

Description: A level path with a 3.5 mile hike roundtrip. Enjoy the variety of birds and alligators along the trek. Since we successfully failed to find the other 3 letterboxes on Pinckney Island, we decided to plant one. I was a little afraid (OK-a lot) to search much for them with snakes and gators lurking around so please be safe.

Directions: From I95 take the Exit 21 and head southeast toward Hilton Head. Once you cross the Mackay Bridge turn left at the sign for Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge and park in the parking lot inside the gate. If you find yourself on Hilton Head you have gone too far.

Clues: Pick up a trail map at the start of the trail and head north east for 1.7 miles until you come to a 4 way intersection. Take the path on the right with the bench on the left of its trail so you will head in the opposite direction of the clubhouse pond. Count 48 paces/96 steps along the path lies the second Palmetto burnt at its base. Stashed behind him you will meet his twin.

Be cautious when reaching into dark spaces in search of letterboxes. Let us know how your search turns out.
