Make your way to Mud Island River Park, which is located at the southern end of Mud Island on the Mississippi River. You have to go through a gate to get to the River Park, but it's free to enter, free to park and free to walk along the ½ mile Riverwalk model and free to enjoy picnic areas. Optional pay areas include visiting the 18-gallery Mississippi River Museum, adventuring into the Wolf River Harbor on a rented kayak or canoe, or exploring Mud Island River Park by rented bicycle. The area also includes restaurants and gift shops.

On September 22-24, 2008, a 60-foot pioneer era flatboat pulls into Memphis during it's 1085 mile journey re-enacting Abraham Lincoln's trip down the river in 1828. In celebration of the 200th birthday, visitors can view the boat and visit an exhibit on Mud Island. For more info www.lincolnsjourney.org.

While you are visiting that week, be sure to get this letterbox too. (The letterbox will remain in place permanently.)

Start walking along the ½ mile Riverwalk model until you reach "Panel 28". Facing Panel 28, turn to your right and walk the few steps in the direction of the actual Mississippi River to a waist high retaining wall. Peer over the waist high retaining wall, to see a lower knee level retaining wall. Make your way down to where the 2 retaining walls meet (I suggest going around the big bushes). Face the point where the 2 walls meet, with your back to the actual Mississippi River, the box is under a couple of rocks, about a foot left of the point where the 2 retaining walls meet.
