First you have to find the Lost Lake. The Lodge has maps available to point the way to the Lost Lake Butte trailhead, or you may see the trailhead signs along the main road and near the B-C campsite loop road. Campsites often fill up on Thursday evenings for the weekend, so get there early. This hike is only about 4.4mi round trip, but with plenty of elevation gain, so be prepared to huff and puff your way to the fire lookout.
At the top of the butte, you can see a small part of the Ring of Fire. The view of Mt. Hood is spectacular. You can also see Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens?, and Mt. Jefferson.
From the top step of the lookout, you can see evidence of fire in front of you. Now head for a large lava rock at 140*, and look under little lavas, for a fire of your own.
