Whose idea was it to climb this mountain to find a letterbox?

**Checked on box 7-10-2010 All is well**

*This hike took 2 fairly good hikers about an hour to do. It can be very strenuous for some.

There are several ways to get to the top of Black Mt. Choose your own way or follow these directions.

To get to the parking area at the trail head for Black Mountain, take Route 56 to Black Mountain Road. When it ends at Carmel Valley Road, stay on Carmel Valley Road until you come to a large sign on the east side of the road that reads "Black Mountian Open Space Park". It is about one mile from the intersection, past the park. The parking area is open from sunrise to sunset. There is no street sign here but you shouldn't have trouble seeing the 2 brown park signs. Go up the hill (this road is paved unlike the dirt road access that is closer to the junction of Black Mountain) and to the parking area. At the kiosk, notice the Miner's Ridge Loop Trail. You will take this trail left and follow it for about 3/4 of a mile (it took about 20 minutes at a steady pace to reach). Just past this .75 mile marker the fence breaks and the Miner's Ridge Loop Trail goes left. Change trails at this junction and head uphill to the right. There are lots of rocks under foot and it gets very steep. Continue on downhill for a little bit and then back up hill to the towers that loom in front of you. Avoid going right on any side trails.
Once at the top, check out the great 360 degree views.
Find the lone fenced tower on the east side. Go down the very short road and go around the fence to the northwest corner. Look west to the hillside and see an old mass of concrete that has spilled over the dirt. Under this overhang you will find the reason you came here. It was all because of Thomas Edison's great idea.

To get back to the parking area, take the trail right where you came up. Continue to take rights until you reach the fence again. At this point take a left.

There is no ink pad or pen. Please reseal inner bag and container tightly before tucking it back in its hiding spot. Cover front and top of box with rocks. Long live the letterbox that is well hidden!!!!!
