From 395 in Bridgeport, take Twin Lakes road, # 420 west (about 10 miles) to just before Twin Lakes Resort. Turn left on Lower Twin Lake Rd. towards Robinson Creek and shortly cross a small bridge, turning right towards Lower Twin Lakes CG. Park in big day use area, just past the CG where there are potty’s, water and big RV turn around. There is Lake access, picnic tables and a super view of the mountains from the parking area.

The story: While on our annual trailer trip we were awakened one early morning to a lightning and thunderstorm. Maggie, the bear scaring dog, was so frightened she jumped in bed with us. The event continued for 10 minutes but in the morning the sky was clear.

To the box, which should take 5 minutes.

As you are driving in from the wooden bridge, note a long, dead, old fellow with a cracked trunk lying above the road. Just a bit further is a sign for “Wilderness Information” and beyond that a trail sign noting “Summer Mdws-2, Tamarack Lake-4 and Hunewill Lake-5 After parking in day use area or along the road, take the trail up hill past the signs just a little bit to a tall, but top deprived grand fellow on trail left. This extraordinary tree looks like its branches are forming spirals: very curvy and lovely.

With your back to the up hill side of tree, your destination is 110 degrees to a non -distinguished rock semi covered with dead brush. No bushwhacking needed, but just go up trail about 50 steps to another grand tree on your left. Stop, and go back down trail about 6 steps and head to your left at 180 degrees for 20 steps to the backside of that non-distinguished rock. In a cairn is a real crummy box with an image of “After the Storm”. After securing book in baggies, please put a rock on top of the box before covering all with more rocks so the box will be well protected.

If you have some time or are camping near by, check out the Flag hike, up along same trail. Or at Mono Village by Upper Twin Lake is the Horsetail Falls box. Enjoy!

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.
