## Down for maintenance ##

Head north from Westport and look for the Westport-Union Landing State Beach right across the highway from the DeHaven Creek Farm. If you see Abalone Point on your left you’ve gone too far. Turn around and look again.

Park where you can since this part of the state beach system is closed to traffic. I parked right at the entrance. Walk along the crumbling road of the park going north. Pass two little bulildings. When you get to the third you’re warm. Count posts on your left. When you reach 12 you’ll find the “W” is for Westport letterbox right behind.

The "W" is for Westport stamp is carved in an image of a letter from the celtic dog alphabet, a wonderful curious alphabet which puts a lie to the notion of 8th to 12th century monks having no sense of humor. This alphabet is a modern creation of forms combined from The Book Of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels in the book 101 Celtic illuminated letters.

Thanks for coming!
