In tribute to the HOT weather and my mom's memory (who loved eating Chili Rellenos), this stamp is planted at Bishop Park in Justin, TX. Easy drive by.
I enjoy hunting stamps with History and reading the historical markers. There is no historical marker here, so I did a little research on Justin. We moved here 3 years ago and when people hear "Justin", the first thing out of their mouth is "Oh, where the boots are!"
Well yes..., but believe it or not that is not how Justin got its name.

Many folks who live here don't know about the history of Justin - so here's a tid bit:

Justin, Texas is physically located at the intersection of Farm roads 407 and 156, five miles northwest of Grapevine Lake, in southwestern Denton County, Texas. The area was originally settled by a band of French colonists who, in 1848, established the "Icarian Colony". The "Icarian Colony" community was actually abandoned about a year later (in 1849), and the Justin Texas area remained a sparsely populated area until about the early 1880s. Justin Texas began in 1883 with the sale of a few lots owned by Chet Helm and a man with the last name of Riley. In 1884 or 1885 a general store opened in Justin, and the area became popular among farmers. In 1888, the Santa Fe railroad extended its line from Fort Worth, Texas to Purcell, Oklahoma. They laid railroad tracks near Justin Texas because it was a growing area. Residents of nearby Roanoke, Elizabeth, and Drop, Texas moved to be near the railroad. In January 1887 Justin Texas petitioned postal authorities for a post office to be named Justin, in honor of Justin Sherman, chief engineer of the Santa Fe railroad line.
The Justin Texas community, at a site in the Grand Prairies region of Denton County, Texas, benefited from nearby prosperous wheat and dairy farms. In 1896 the area had a population of 100--Justin Texas also had a general store, a grocery store, a hotel, and a cotton gin. The addition of grain elevators, frozen-food lockers, and paved roads established Justin Texas as a shipping point for agricultural products. At one time the community had a movie theater, a weekly newspaper (the Justin Tribune), and a preparatory school (Pennington College qv). The town's population increased from 476 in 1904 to 700 in 1941, and in 1947 Justin was incorporated. In 1980 the population was reported as 920. During the 1980s many residents commuted on Interstate Highway 35 to jobs in nearby Denton and Fort Worth. In 1987 the Flying S Farm airstrip was located just outside the town. In 1990 Justin reported a population of 1,282 and seventy-six businesses. By 2000 the population was 1,891 with 149 businesses.

The most popular attraction in Justin is the Texas Motor Speedway, home of many NASCAR races.
Contrary to what most people believe - Justin is not named after the boots.

Directions to the box:
From downtown Justin - go South on FM 156 to Bishop Park. Just north of Sonic & Chicken Express Bishop Park is on the right.
From HWY 114 & FM 156 go North on 156. Just past Sonic Bishop Park is on the left.

Turn into Bishop Park and locate the park sign. Directly behind the sign is a tree with a double fork mid way up with a hole. "Ruby Red Chili Rellenos" is hidden in the hollow of this tree. Remove the rock and carefully unwedge her.
I filled the tree with rocks so that she will not fall any further.
Happy hunting and stay COOL.
