Ahh, Summertime. There's nothing like it, especially if you happen to be either a student or teacher. But there comes a point in time during the summer months that the start of another year looms around the corner. We are at that corner. So I figured that today would be a good day to go and plant a letterbox. This box is another in a group of random yet interesting carvings, it reminded me of the Irving & Hazeline Smith Memorial Trail - the map is not drawn to scale but the trail map loop (loosely) resembled the carving.
To get to the trail -
Take Hwy 360 South from US 183 - turn right at the light at Old Spicewood Springs Road. (It’s about ½ mile south of 183.) Take an immediate right and drive into the gravel parking area. The trail head is across the road. After reading trail information and checking out the trail map, or take one along for the journey, make your way down the trail to the Victory Garden.
Take the right fork taking the path towards the falls. On your right will be a railing and at the end will be a narrow brown marker with an arrow on it on the left, near the bottom of a slight hill - continue on this path at your own pace until you approach the next marker - as you approach this marker You will notice a large smooth rock on the left side of the path - in the crevice of this rock is what you seek, near the tree, covered with bark. Please recover well and out of sight and leave no footprint.
To enjoy more of this trail continue down to the falls or the contemplation bench and enjoy the woods. Be sure to look for other letterboxes on this path - Louisa May, Footprints and others.
