This series features one box along Pacific Coast Highway in each California county, and the stamps relate to that county's name. San Luis Obispo County was named for a saint who, at a young age, renounced his royal inheritance to join the clergy instead, dying just a few years later because he cared more for the needs of the poor than himself. He chose the mitre over the crown.
Of course, beginning in Santa Barbara County, the "1" becomes known as the Cabrillo Highway, but for a short distance along Pismo State Beach it was labeled wrong on Google Maps when I planted this, which is a good enough excuse for me. It's gotten plenty of finds and nobody has called me on it.
Heading north in Grover Beach, just past a 7 and 11 at 99 on the left, pull in at the sign of the herring and park. Cross the wooden bridge and, at the end, step off the right side. By the second-to-last post are lots of dead leaves and a small rock.
This stamp was an experiment. Ink the whole thing, press one side, roll it to the front, then roll to the other side. When you're finished, make sure the logbook is in a bag, and that bag and the stamp are both in a second bag. |
