Strive for Mediocrity

State Game Lands 145.
http://www.pgc.state.pa.us/pgc/game/maps/default.asp?rgn=Southeast

Bridle Trail Parking Lot, which is the first lot on the right north of the Turnpike on 241/117 or North Colebrook Rd.

Go through the first gate to the second gate. East through a beautiful meadow (at least it was beautiful when we planted the box).

Follow the trail to “T” and go right on gravel road. The never ending gravel road…..

Pass 134 and 3 white lines on trees to your right and bear left at the “Y” with all the signs.

Pass open fields on your right and stay left along the tree line along a Farmers road as you go down hill. As you approach the last very open field, look carefully for a trail off to the left. Yes, there are prickers. Yes, there is a trail past the prickers, a beaten path.

You will shortly come to a small stream. Much prettier trail than that we had been on, much prefer woods that open areas.

I decided to have lunch at the stream. Black Swan decided to build a cairn. To each his/her own. While he was building the cairn the box jumped out of his pack. It was a sign: either the large rock in his pack or the box had to go.

So we planted the box.

20 steps on the trail from the stream to “V” tree on the right.

250* to Rock and SPOR.

You can retrace your steps or continue on the trail. You will go through some muddy areas and cross over a few streamlets. At the first open area go straight to the road and follow it to a “T” and go left and head up hill. At the top go right to the next “T” and go left. Go right on the trail. You should see a blue blaze on the left and a red blaze dot on the right. This will take you back to the meadow and your car.

Background on the stamp:
Black Swan’s idea, carve and directions. One of his many sayings “Strive for Mediocrity”. People don’t expect too much from you and you always reach your goals.

We have never needed the best or biggest in life. It has saved us more than once in our journey together. We’re OK with being mediocre. Someone needs to keep that bell curve in shape.

Warnings:
This is on State Game Lands, hunt at your own risk during Bambi Season
Because it is on SGL, trails are not pristine. You will have to duck, dodge & watch for prickers, but trail is doable.
Enjoy this place.
Eat your vegetables
Hug those you love often and with gusto!
