We thought the name was HOG ROCK, so we titled the box after a certain Oregon Hog who could get this box with no hiking, but after hearing about the Hogg who got this piece of rock named after him, the title should be Hum Dinger Hogg. He was one of the men behind opening up the pass to traffic, although railroad traffic was his goal.
Clues:
From The Suttle Lake turnoff head uphill on 20 for about 8 miles. Turn right just past the PCT trailhead on your right and the HooDoo Ski area on your left. If the yellow gate is closed do not fret, this is a “driveby” for goodness sakes. Park and look above the gate post on your right for a pine with a jog in the trunk. The letterbox is hidden at the base.

If you have time after stamping in, drive down the dirt road near this gate, and you will see the boarded up abandoned Santiam Lodge.

When researching our clues please be aware that when previous searchers list “ATTEMPTED” on the clue sheets it may reflect more on their abilities as finders than indicate whether the box is viable or not. We do monitor our clues and boxes pretty well and appreciate the notes written to us by those that find or attempt our letterboxes.
